The Inspector Cluzo-CD1

Our first album, released in 2008, followed on from the first four-track EP released a few months earlier. The four tracks included the songs "Two Days," "F.the Bass Player," "Mad," and "Do You Make It Right."This first album and four-track EP were recorded in the countryside at the home of our friend Pierre Wagner (who was an intern at Ter à Terre at the time). Our old friend Stéphane Kraemer mixed everything at Studios Jet in Brussels. When Wolfunkind broke up, we decided to continue playing music together, just for fun, starting with a bassist who didn't even finish the first rehearsals. We decided to play as a duo, without any gimmicks, computers, or tapes to mask the lack of bass or orchestration. The foundations of our sound were laid. We would have to be creative and 100% organic. We had no idea how we were going to do it, but this constraint, which we never deviated from, would guide and dictate the rules of our career. Very quickly, we opted for specific tunings on the guitars, well known in blues "open-tuning," which would considerably evolve Laurent's playing towards a kind of mix of bass guitar playing at the same time. Mathieu's playing was much more based on percussion and the management of space. The voice would be our third instrument. Based on these rules, we composed some of the songs that would always follow us in live performances: "F the Bass Player," "Two Days," and "The Inspector Cluzo." Angelo Moore from Fishbone sang with us on the intro track, "The Inspector Cluzo." In fact, Angelo is the one who came up with our band name... he's a kind of spiritual godfather to the band, and of course there's the funny contribution from Norwood Fisher (Fishbone) on "F. the bass player." When we recorded it out of passion and pleasure, we never imagined that we were at the beginning of an incredible adventure that has lasted 12 years and would take us to the four corners of the world thanks to this music and its... creative constraints. The first concert took place on April 8, 2008, in Glasgow @KingTut's, supporting Fishbone...This album allowed us to go straight to Japan, to the prestigious FUJI ROCK 2008 (lots of videos on the internet), to the Pentaport festival in South Korea, to Bluesfest in Australia and France, our first two festivals, to Rock dans tous ces Etats in Evreux and to the Eurockeennes de Belfort...Our label was inevitably going to be called F THE BASS PLAYER RECORDS forever...
